About Our Ceramic Business

R L Foote Design Studio is a Melbourne-Hong Kong based design studio focused on delivering unique and contemporary ceramic flatware, interior design objects and event-based designs. Every piece of ceramics are meticulously hand-made in our Melbourne studio by artists and designers.

Working with chefs, interior designers, and artists, our team designs and produces tableware, artworks and ceramic design objects. We focus on rethinking the physical and ephemeral experience of details in life, from lighting design, to tableware, to creative cocktails, even to art installation. With our sister business Chocolates by Ryan L Foote, we also conceptualise new food forms and bring to life dinning experiences that emphasise on textures, tastes, cultural influences to enhance your experience.

Our flagship site is based in Clifton Hill, Victoria, Australia, where you can see all our products being made in the workshop and glaze laboratory, visit our showroom, retail space and gallery, and attend classes and events.

Entrepreneur and multi-disciplinary artist Ryan L. Foote is based between Melbourne and Hong Kong, known for his multi-sensory installations and sculptures. He has exhibited in prominent venues like the National Gallery of Victoria and Federation Square. Foote holds a BA in Fine Arts from Melbourne University Victorian College of the Arts, majoring in Sculpture and Spatial Practice.

In the early stages of his career, Foote worked on runway design for prominent fashion events and also engaged in theatre and set design. His passion for culture and gastronomy later inspired him to develop unique multi-sensory art that includes digitally generated shapes and custom-designed foods and utensils. In 2015, he launched Chocolates by Ryan L Foote, reimagining the chocolate bon bon through a fusion of advanced 3D printing and traditional techniques. In 2018, he founded R L Foote Design Studio, focusing on the design and production of ceramic tableware, design objects, and large art installations. In 2021, he moved the studio to its current location in Clifton Hill. Foote's dynamic practice continues to shape the contemporary art scene by blending art, design, and gastronomy.
